Summary
Critical list of species records of tachinid flies (Diptera, Tachinidae) known from Berlin and Brandenburg (Germany).
Three hundred and twenty-two species of tachinid flies (Diptera, Tachinidae) have so far been found in the federal states of
Berlin and Brandenburg, which corresponds to almost two-thirds of all the species known from Germany.
In an overview each confirmed species is listed in the chronological order of the literature references that contain information
about its occurrence in Berlin and Brandenburg. Some species are treated in more detail.
Tachinid fly species that were described for the first time from a locality within this region are discussed.
The type material of these species that is available in the regional collections was examined, and the holotype of
Wagneria riedeli VILLENEUVE, 1937, a paralectotype of Actia lichtwardtiana VILLENEUVE, 1931 and syntypes of
Actia nudibasis STEIN, 1924, Kirbya unicolor VILLENEUVE, 1927 and Picconia angustata VILLENEUVE, 1933
were recognised and labelled.
Numerous species from this region have been recorded in the secondary literature, without any concrete faunistic data.
In these cases, the regional collections were examined for possible evidence of their occurrence.
If the results were positive, the locality data from Berlin and Brandenburg are given.
After reviewing literature and collections, the occurrence of an additional 34 species could not be confirmed.
They are therefore not included in this revised species list.
In addition to the published records, the author's collection contains a further 12 species new to Berlin and Brandenburg.
They are recorded together with their locality data and added to the species list.
In the notes on selected species, and in addition to the regional finds in Brandenburg and Berlin, first records are also given
from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia, Hesse (all Germany) and for Anthomyiopsis nigrisquamata (ZETTERSTEDT, 1838),
a new record from Italy (South Tyrol).
Contrary to the information in various other publications, no evidence for the occurrence of Kirbya moerens (MEIGEN, 1830)
or Kirbya unicolor VILLENEUVE, 1927 in Poland could be found.
Likewise, Siphona tenuipalpis (VILLENEUVE, 1921) does not occur in Italy (South Tyrol) or in the Czech Republic.
In the discussion it is pointed out that many of the species listed here have not been found in Berlin or Brandenburg for 80 years
or more. On the other hand, relatively few species have migrated to the region in recent decades.
The work concludes with an extensive bibliography.
